Brewer: Ceado Hoop

The Ceado Hoop is as easy as it gets for pour overs- you don't even need a gooseneck kettle! This is a no-bypass brewer, meaning all the water engages with all the coffee; nothing running down the sides of a filter that skips the brewing process. This leads to a high extraction rate and a beautifully balanced cup of coffee.

To use the Hoop you'll need the Hoop, a filter, a carafe or cup with a flat top, ground coffee (we recommend 22 grams, medium-coarse grind), hot water, and a scale. Standard recipe is:

1. Grind 22 grams of coffee. Medium-coarse is recommended to start with.
2. Heat your water. We recommend using water a few degrees below boiling.
3. Unscrew the chamber from the hoop and place a filter in the bottom. Reattach the chamber, closing it tightly. The filter should be taut. If using the Rao fast filter, please put the coarse side of the filter facing up.
4. Put your mug or carafe on a scale, and the Ceado Hoop on top of that. Pour your coffee grounds into the inner chamber and gently shake the Hoop to level the coffee bed. Tare the scale to 0.
5. Slowly pour ~380ml of water into the outer chamber (not over the coffee). If a crust forms on the top of the coffee after pouring the water, you can gently break it up with a spoon.
6. Relax and let the Hoop take care of everything else!

This recipe should ideally take about four minutes to get the best cup. If it's going too fast, try grinding finer; conversely, if too slow, try grinding coarser. Or, buy the Hoop in a bundle from us, and choose to have a grind optimized for this brewer! Regarding your carafe or mug, you want to make sure the top is flat- if there is a handle that’s too high it can lead to the brewer not laying flat, which will impact the brew.
